Automate System Monitoring

The Lookout and Audit facilities provides advance warning of potential problems and take corrective action based on site-defined criteria. System Automatic Monitor (SAM) monitors resource utilization and compares it with pre-defined monitoring thresholds for each site. When resource utilization exceeds specified level SAM can inform up to six user IDs to take action.

Control Resource Allocation

SAM enables adjustment of the System to increase or decrease the amount of resources allocated to compute-bound users. SAM allows most appropriate action to be taken in response to needs.

Improve Response Time

Balancing the I/O Load across DASD subsystem eliminates need for expensive CPU upgrades at the same time alleviates many response-time problems. The analytical capabilities of the Business Technology Monitor helps locate bottlenecks, and reports & data collection features make the appropriate adjustments. SAM can also identify most heavily used storage device

Analyze Temporary Disk Use

The Business Technology Monitor Lookout Facility helps control DISK usage by showing how much DISK space each user employs & which disk volumes contain unused space. Monitor allows acceptable DISK space usage to be defined and watch for exceptions above the limit. This way greater control over disk utilization is exercised making it easier for users to obtain temporary space.

Save time for Operators

SAM also displays current status of system devices decreasing need for customer intervention. If current status is different from expected status, Monitor can invoke an action routine. All devices can be monitored including tape, graphic, direct access storage and printing devices.

Improve Memory Utilization

Memory related statistics are displayed through Lookout facility enabling staff to determine whether system is using its CP free storage and dynamic paging area efficiently. Statistics are dynamically updated every 60 seconds, helping improve memory utilization and system performance.

Monitor System Data

SVT Monitor allows you to view CPU and main memory status. Provides information on how busy CPU is overall & the division of time between system overhead & productive operations.

Monitor User Data

SAM permits analysis of resource consumption by user ID. Information would show which Ids are the most active & length of idle time of a particular ID. The information could prevent resource-intensive user Ids from degrading system performance.

Pinpoint Performance Bottlenecks

SVT Monitor Summary Screen provides overview of system performance over last five data sampling intervals. It tells whether the present problem is due to CPU performance, a computer-bound user ID or an overloaded channel.

View Retrospective Data

Users are not always aware of performance problems when they occur. SAM can display information for whatever timeframe you choose enabling an analysis of problems that would otherwise be impossible to examine
